About Us: What is Academic Tutoring?

Tutoring for non-math and non-English classes is available to UVU students FREE of charge.

  • Drop-In Tutoring
Whether students need an occasional hint or a full explanation of difficult concepts, tutorial assistance is available on a drop-in basis. Tutors for many UVU courses are available in Academic Tutoring, LA 201, Monday-Thursday from 8 am - 9 pm,  Friday from 8 am - 5 pm, and Saturday from 10 am - 3 pm; students can drop in at any time during those hours. Academic Tutoring is also a great place to study!
  • One-on-One Tutoring
Students can sign up for one (1) hour a week of one-on-one tutoring with one of our tutors. This is a great opportunity to get some individualized tutoring--FREE! Check at the Academic Tutoring front desk for more information. You can also call 801-863-5376 to sign up.
  • Volunteer Tutoring
Students may also sign up to meet with a volunteer tutor on a weekly basis. Sign up at the front desk and provide all the necessary information, so you can be matched with a volunteer tutor for your course.
  • Mentored Study Groups
Mentored Study Groups (MSGs) are offered for those courses considered high risk and provides regularly scheduled, out-of-class, peer facilitated sessions. MSG leaders attend class sessions, take notes, read all assigned material, and conduct one or more 50-minute MSG sessions per week.  MSGs integrate how-to-learn with what-to-learn through collaborative learning techniques.
  • Online Tutoring
Please email tutoring@uvu.edu for online tutoring.  Online tutoring provides another choice for UVU students needing academic assistance. Students enrolled in Distance Education courses or who are unable to meet with a tutor on campus for live tutorials can log onto the Internet and interact with tutors and other students.
  • Who are the tutors?
Tutors are UVU students who have successfully completed the course(s) they are tutoring and have been recommended as tutors by their instructors. Tutors receive training in tutoring skills according to standards set by CRLA, the College Reading and Learning Association. Information about tutoring assistance may be obtained in Academic Tutoring, LA 201 or by calling 801-863-5376.
