The first step to become a volunteer tutor is to apply. You can obtain the
application
and return it at the front desk in LA 201. By filling out the application, you are confirming that you have earned a B or better in the class(es) you are interested in tutoring. (Be sure to list all classes you qualify to tutor, as we do receive requests for various courses.)
Volunteer tutors are required to have a letter of recommendation from a UVU faculty member on file. The letter simply needs to recommend you to be a volunteer tutor. You can have the faculty member send the email to Susan Marie Nielsen
nielssus@uvu.edu
. 801.863.5351
Tutors who volunteer must provide a copy of their academic transcript. It can be an unofficial copy, printed off of UVlink. This allows us to verify that you did well enough in a course to tutor it. When we have your transcript on file, it makes it easier for us to match you with the appropriate students and courses.
Volunteer tutors should complete an
availability form
each semester, in order for us to match you (at the most convenient times) with students requesting tutors. The availability form can be obtained and returned at the front desk in LA 201. Make sure you fill out a new form anytime your schedule changes (i.e. new semester, new job, etc…).
All UVU tutors are required to complete orientation and one 50-min training (offered weekly). They are also encouraged to become CRLA certified tutors. |
