Every Advisor must have instant access to institutional policies, procedures and resources and professional networking in order to stay current and expand their critical role in assisting students. The following organizations provide a conduit whereby this may be accomplished:
The National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) is an association of professional advisors, counselors, faculty, administrators and students working to enhance the educational development of students.

The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) provides professional development, promotes exemplary practices, and is a leader in policy development. NASPA helps senior student affairs officers and administrators, student affairs professionals, faculty, and other educators enhance student learning and development. NASPA promotes quality and high expectations; advocates for students; encourages diversity; and excels in research and publication.

NACE forecasts trends in the job market; tracks legal issues in employment, the job search, and hiring practices; and provides college and employer professionals with benchmarks for their work. NACE provides research and information to its professional members through NACEWeb, quarterly surveys of starting salary offers to new college graduates, a quarterly journal, a biweekly newsletter, and surveys of employer and college members. NACE provides members with primary tools for reaching and educating college students through their Job Choices publications—the most recommended job-search and career guides for today's graduates and alumni—and JobWire, the online complement to Job Choices.
