Advisement Council

The Advisement Council (AC) and Advisor Training &   Development (ATD) address the increasing growth and complexity of advising at   UVU. The   Advisement Council (AC) is comprised of a representative group of academic   advisors/counselors, support advisors, specialty advisors and advising   administrators. The AC draws   membership from two sub-groups which represent academic advisors and   specialty/support advisors respectively and includes representation from   Advisor Training & Development and administration. See the representation charts below.

Co-Chairs/

Administrative Liaisons

Two division-level   administrators serve on the committee as co-chair liaisons to senior   administration. One serves from   Academic Affairs and one serves from Student Affairs and are be appointed by   the respective Vice Presidents.

Current Chairs

Academic Affairs Chair: K.D. Taylor – Dean, University College

Student Affairs Chair: Shad Sorenson – Assoc. VP of Student Support Services

Membership

Membership comes from   the two sub-groups as described below under the respective categories. A representative of Advisor Training &   Development is also a member of the group and the office also provides   administrative support to the AC.

2012-2013 Academic Advising Representatives

2012-2013 Support/Specialty Advising Representatives

Each college or school   is represented by both an academic advisor/counselor and an administrator. Advisors serve two-year terms with a   maximum of two consecutive terms and are identified by each college/school in   a manner deemed appropriate by the Dean.  It is recommended that advisors be selected   by their peers. Advisor membership is   rotated every two years according to the following schedule: Even Years | Odd Years   (see chart below). Administrators are   appointed by the Dean and reviewed annually.

Specialty/Support unit   representatives are appointed by the administrative lead responsible for the   represented departments. Consideration   is given to seek the voice of the practicing advisor in addition to   administration. Representatives serve   two-year terms and may be reappointed.   Membership is rotated every two years according to the following   schedule: Even Years | Odd Years (see chart below).

The AC may add   additional representative slots to best meet the needs of the support/specialty   advising units.
