in the "Make Ugly Contest," sponsored by DeviantART and truth®.
Students were challenged to depict the ugliest truth about Big Tobacco through depictions of the ugliest monsters, giants, mutants and undead art.

Won one of three scholarships to attend the IlluXCon Conference. IlluXCon is a symposium dedicated solely to the art of the fantastic (imaginative realism) for artists, students, collectors, and art fans. (His illustration is to the left.)

Certificate of Merit at the Utah AIGA 100 Show in Salt Lake City.
A professional association for design, AIGA awards the year's best in professional and student design, advertising and digital media.

Braxton Wilhelmsen, BS Photography, 2013
Silver Medal - National Skills USA Competition
After placing 1st at the Utah Skills USA competition in photography, Braxton Wilhelmsen traveled to Kansas City, Missouri for the National contest. He brought home a Silver Medal. Skills USA evaluates students technical and creative abilities in a hands-on, project-based competition.

As a way to raise awareness for the American cotton industry, Inez Harwood and dozens of volunteers created the longest tie-dye in the world, over 2945 feet, recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records. This was Inez's BFA Project. Inez was featured on a number of media outlets, including ABC 4 news. Over 130 pounds of dye was donated by the Dharma Trading Company in California.

Lauren Stratton, BFA - Painting/Drawing
Received a scholarship to Notre Dame's MFA program.
The scholarship is awarded to one student every other year and covers tuition and provides a stipend to the student.
Significance: Students in painting/drawing/printmaking are able to secure scholarships for post-graduate education at some of the leading institutions in the country.



Rand Smith's work will be part of the "Reflections" Gallery 21 at the San Diego Museum of Art.

Work was accepted into an international show, Arte Internazionale in Italy

Patrick Wilkey - Graphic Design
His one-man show opened on October 7 at USU Eastern. "Drawn Out Words," the illuminated manuscripts project ran through November 7, 2013.

Sue Parkinson and Nancy Steele-Makasci - Painting/Drawing 
Work was accepted in the Utah Women Artists Exhibition, Celebrating the Vitality of Women 2013. The exhibition was at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center, September 5th – October 24th.

Jim Godfrey and Stephen Hales - Graphic Design
Their work was juried into the 2013 Print Regional Design Annual. This highly selective and well-regarded competition, sponsored by Print magazine, is the most comprehensive survey of graphic design in the United States and recognizes outstanding creative work produced by individuals and groups.
