AVC Performance Scholarships

Performance scholarships in the AVC department are primarily awarded to students who demonstrate significant talent above and beyond the average student. Scholarships are awarded based on performance and perceived potential. Below is the rubric for use in evaluating applicants:

  • Portfolio 60%
  • Grades 20%
  • Potential 20%

Additional factors to consider may be status in the AVC program, area of study, work ethic and collegiality.

The department has the following 6 areas of emphasis for study: art education, graphic design, illustration, painting/drawing, photography, sculpture/ceramics. Ideally, a student in each area should be awarded a scholarship. However, mitigating factors such as a limited number of applicants in an area or poor student portfolios may preclude this from occurring.

Each applicant has been asked to submit a portfolio on CD and a transcript of his/her grades. The committee shall review each application, including viewing the portfolio. If the student's CD does not work properly, Staci Owens will contact the student and ask that a working disc be brought in. The student shall have a window of 3 days to prepare to submit a new disc after s/he has been contacted (via phone) by Staci.

Students shall not be discriminated against for any reason, including age, disability, equal compensation, genetic information, national origin, pregnancy, race/color, religion, retaliation, gender, or sexual orientation.

Review of applicants happens during Spring Semester, with the portfolio due by the third Friday of February (see the application for details).
