The Utah Valley University Flight Club offers students the opportunity to develop and master aviation skills. The club began from humble roots in the fall of 2011 with two advisors and a handful of students and has grown to more than 25 members, two advisors, a head coach, and numerous assistant coaches. The club meets year round to practice, perform, and serve in the community.
Yearly the club fields a travel team of its top members that participates throughout the year in National Collegiate Flying Association (NIFA) sponsored flight competitions. Top schools at the regional competitions are extended an invitation to participate in the National SAFECON event where 30 schools from the 11 regions compete head to head for a National Championship Trophy.
UVU Aviation utilizes state of the art Diamond Aircraft. UVU Flight Club is one of only a handful of aviation programs competing at NIFA Events utilizing the ultra modern low wing Diamond Aircraft. This adds a level of complexity requiring an even more advanced Pilot Skillset. UVU Flight Club members benefit greatly from this added measure of training. Flight Club participation, particularly participation in a NIFA Event, is a very desirable resume builder for Aviation Employers.
UVU has recently participated in two regional events and one national event. We competed in a joint Regional competition in Prescott, Arizona in February 2014.
NIFA events include flying, ground, and simulator events. Students have the opportunity to test all aspects of their aviation skillsets at these competitions.
