My name is Robert Bullock. I was born in Penrith, New South Wales, Australia. My dad is an Aussie, and my mum is from England. My dad was in the Royal Australian Air Force as an avionics tech. I lived on base till Dad left the Air Force, when I was 6. We then moved to Dad’s home city of Perth, Western Australia. When I was 23, I was playing a game online where I met my now wife. She was from Green Bay, WI.
The biggest influence my dad had on me when he was in the Air Force was with the aircraft. Ever since I can remember I have wanted to be a commercial pilot, flying big aeroplanes overseas to foreign countries. Also, all the traveling I did made me want to experience other cultures and visit other lands.
Another reason I want to be a pilot is to help my own children see the world and experience things they would otherwise not be able to. I want to give my kids the best I can. I grew up being able to travel the world, and that is something not a lot of people can say they have done or can do. I was lucky in that respect. We didn’t have much, and my parents gave us what they could. But to me, the best thing they gave us was the world. I have taken my kids on a lot of flights, and they love them.
My wife and I had talked about me becoming a pilot for a long time before we finally took the plunge. I emailed the flight schools in Green Bay and only one got back to me. So they were the school I chose, and they were affiliated with UVU. That is how I became a UVU student.
My goal is to finish the course, then become a CFI and charter pilot. I am aiming to become a pilot at a major airline, flying international routes.
So far I have my Private and my Instrument ratings. I am currently working on Commercial, then getting straight into my multi-rating. I have to say my favourite flight was my long cross-country for my commercial in which I got to land at Chicago’s Midway airport, then fly along the Lake Michigan shoreline with Chicago skyline views. What I like most though, is taking my kids and passengers up to let them experience the amazing world of aviation. To me there is nothing better.
