United States Congressman Chris Stewart was invited to visit our UVU Aviation Science Department at the airport today to see our operation. Assistant Chief Flight Instructor Nate Skene and Department Chairman Jim Green took Congressman Stewart for a ride in a DA42. UVU President Matthew Holland, Vice President for University Relations Cameron Martin, and CAPS Interim Dean Tom Sturtevant were here to welcome Congressman Stewart before Director of Operations Mario Markides took him on a tour of our facility. SVPAA Dr. Jeff Olson also joined the group for lunch.
According to Dr. Green, the tour provided “a chance for us to talk to him about UVU, the future of aviation, and the federal government’s part in it. Representative Stewart is a former Air Force pilot who flew the B1 Lancer Bomber and set a world record in it for non-stop flight around the world in 36 hours. He was thrilled to be back in the air. And we were honored to have him visit.”
