UVU accepts transfer credit from Colleges and Universities with an accreditation from the following list of Regional Accrediting Bodies, as long as the courses taken are college level and the grades received are "C-" or higher:

  • Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA)
  • Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges (NASC)
  • North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA)
  • New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. - Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (NEASC-CIHE)
  • Southern Association of Schools and Colleges - Commission on Colleges (SASC-CC)
  • Western Association of Schools and Colleges - Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (WASC-Jr)
  • Western Association of Schools and Colleges - Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities (WASC-Sr)

Transfer courses are posted as semester hours with the grades earned, but are not calculated in the GPA. It is the student's responsibility to contact previous colleges they have attended and request official transcripts of their college courses to be sent to the UVU Admissions Office at the following address:

Utah Valley University
attn: Admissions Office MC-106
800 West University Parkway
Orem, UT 84058-5999

Transcripts accepted as official by the UVU Admissions Office are automatically sent to the Transfer Services Office for evaluation and posting. Processing time could take several weeks.

Due to the high volume of transcript evaluations, it is your responsibility to contact us in order to find out the results. Do not expect UVU to contact you.

The Transfer Services Office may request the student to supply a catalog, bulletin, or course outline(s) from colleges attended to assist in determining the transferability of specific courses.

Course Substitution

If subject content is equivalent, lower division (1000 or 2000 level) courses transferred from other institutions may be substituted by departments for UVU lower-division (1000 or 2000 level) courses. However, these courses will not satisfy upper-division credit-hour requirements. Upper division transfer credits may substitute in for lower division classes. The baccalaureate degree requires a minimum of 40 hours of upper-division credit.

Military Evaluation

Military courses are evaluated from the following forms/transcripts:

DD 214 * - Member Form Copy

Experiential Credit

New students may receive experiential credit for pilot certificates, previous training, life or work experience obtained prior to beginning our degree program, provided it is approved by a senior advisor.

In order to receive experiential credit for pilot certificates & ratings, as long as we can verify them on the FAA's Airmen Registry, no copies will be necessary. If we are unable to verify them, the student must make a copy of his or her certificates, ratings, or documents, front and back, and have the copy notarized. Send certificates and other necessary documentation to:

Utah Valley University
Attn: Aviation Science MS-114
800 W. University Parkway
Orem, UT 84058-5999

The price for experiential credit is $15.00 per course and $5.00 per credit. For example, for a 3 credit course, the experiential credit fee would be:

1 course @ $15.00
15.00
3 credits @ $5.00/credit
15.00
Total experiential credit fee for a 3 credit course
$30.00

The experiential credit fee cannot be paid until the request has been processed and the necessary documentation or certificates have been verified. The fee will appear on the student's UVLink account, at which point they can pay it online using Web Check or by mailing a check to the Cashier's Office at the following address. If you choose to pay by check, do not send it until the fee appears on your UVLink account balance.

Utah Valley University
Attn: Cashier's Office MS-109
800 W. University Parkway
Orem, UT 84058

Experiential credit is posted to the student's transcript after associated fees have been paid and the request has been processed. When experiential credit is granted for a course, it will be assigned "CR" (credit) as the final grade. The student is allowed to use experiential credit for a maximum of 30 credit hours at UVU. Sixteen of these credits can be lower division courses. The other fourteen credits must be upper division courses. Please contact one of our senior advisors for more information at aviation@uvu.edu .
