With a myriad of educational options out there, it is important for those pursuing a collegiate education to understand the importance of accreditation in selecting a college or university. Before you choose your school, or perhaps continue your studies at your current school, accreditation definitely needs your serious consideration.

When an institution claims to be "accredited" it is important to understand that there is more than one type of accreditation. Questions to ask include "accredited by whom?" and "what type of accreditation?" The legitimacy of any accreditation hinges on the accrediting body and whether or not they are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
