History

The University traces its origin to 1941 when Central Utah Vocational School was established as part of the Provo school district and was charged with providing vocational education for the region. It became a state institution in 1945, and in 1953 the name was changed to the Utah Trade and Technical Institute. In 2008, Utah Valley State College became Utah Valley University.
