Course Description
This course is a five credit nontransferable course preparatory to ENGL 1010. This course does not transfer to other institutions of higher education; however, the grade you receive for this course does count towards your GPA.This course requires students to create portfolios to display their essays and to model the stages of writing. This course teaches students to distinguish formal from informal writing. Emphasizes writing as a reflection of their reading and speaking abilities. In addition, this course fosters a community of writers by practicing literate activities in the classroom and online. Prerequisite(s): appropriate placement score.
Course Objectives
ENGH 0890 prepares students (in a student-centered teaching environment) for ENGH 0990, ENGL 1010, and additional writing in other courses. In 0890, students:-Distinguish informal writing from formal writing.
-Learn to edit papers for correct usage and mechanical accuracy.
-Use the writing process and peer review strategies
-Create portfolios, a collection of their assigned writing (informative, persuasive, and research), which demonstrates student progress over the semester.
