Sponsored by UVU School of Education, UVU Bookstore, and UVU Conferences & Workshops, the annual Forum on Children's Literature features some of the best and the brightest authors, illustrators, librarians and educators in the children's and young adult book industry. The conference is geared to teachers, illustrators, writers and librarians or anyone interested in children's and young adult literature. For two jam-packed days, we feature workshops, peer critique groups, networking, discounts on featured children's books, book signings and the gallery of illustration. We also offer professional critiques for an additional fee at registration. For more information on this amazing opportunity to learn and network, read on.

Who's presenting...

Caldecott Medal and Honor Medal Winner Eric Rohmann
Eric was born in Riverside Illinois in 1957. He grew up in Downers Grove, a suburb of Chicago, IL. Eric has his BS in Art and an MS in Studio Art from Illinois State University, and an MFA in Printmaking/Fine Bookmaking from Arizona State University. Rohmann also studied Anthropology and Biology. Eric taught printmaking, painting, and fine bookmaking at Belvoir Terrace in Massachusettes and introductory drawing, fine bookmaking and printmaking at St. Olaf College in Minnesota. Eric’s work has been exhibited at various galleries in Illinois, Ohio, Minnesota and Indiana. His work is in the permanent collections of several institutions in the United States and Europe. Eric has created book jackets for a number of novels including His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. He received the Caldecott Honor Medal for "Time Flies" and the Caldecott Medal for My Friend Rabbit.

Candace Fleming
Candace Fleming is the prolific author of many critically acclaimed, bestselling books for children, including the picture books Muncha! Muncha! Muncha! and Boxes for Katie, and the nonfiction titles Our Eleanor and Ben Franklin's Almanac. Her newer books include The Lincolns: a scrapbook look at Abraham and Mary, Imogene's Last Stand and The Great and Only Barnum: the Tremendous, Stupendous Life of Showman P.T. Professional Critiques Available

Professional manuscript and portfolio critiques are offered to registered participants for an additional $35 fee. Submitted manuscripts and portfolios will be assigned to professional authors and illustrators. To participate, you must be registered for the conference. Please submit up to 5 pages of a novel, a 1,000-word picture book manuscript, or an illustration portfolio. Include a cover sheet with your name and email address or phone number. Please contact lisalovesbooksuvu@gmail.com for complete critique guidelines. All submissions must be received by March 2, 2010.

Gallery of Illustration

The gallery has become a very popular part of the Forum on Children’s Literature. If you are interested in showing your artwork, networking with other illustrators, or having your work in front of an editor's eyes, this is the event for you. There will be an Editor’s Choice Award, Illustrator Faculty Award, and Attendees Choice Award. With a paid conference registration and an additional registration fee of $15, illustrators can display their work to those in the children's book market and illustrators fields. Copies of the artwork must be mounted flat to a surface measuring no more than 18"w X 24"h. You may then place it on your own table-top easel along with business cards/postcards.
