When can I start?
After registering online, students will receive an email confirmation. We do our best to send a confirmation of registration within 2-24 business hours. Please check spam filters frequently for this and other email messages.

How much does the course cost and what is included?
The course fee is $310 and it covers the online coursework (approximately 30 hours, as required by Utah law), the final written exam, as well as 6 hours of driving and 6 hours of observing another student drive with a certified driver education instructor at A‐1. For students enrolling in the coursework only option, it is $119 and it covers all of the online coursework as well as the final written exam that must be taken at A‐1 Driving School.
How long do I have to finish the course?
You have 60 days from the time you receive your registration confirmation email to finish the online coursework, as well as the final written exam. You can start your driving and observation hours with A-1 at any point once you have registered and have obtained your learner’s permit. You have up to one year to finish the driving and observation hours with A-1 Driving School.
What if I do not finish the coursework within 60 days? How do I obtain an extension?
If you need more than 60 days to finish your coursework or final exam, you can purchase an extension. The duration and fee for an extension is as follows:
7 days - $29
14 days - $55
30 days - $100

How quickly can I finish the course?
Once you have received your registration confirmation email you are free to begin the course. The online coursework takes an average of at least 30 hours to complete and includes 18 hours of video and 12 hours of quizzes, reading assignments, practice exams and an in-person final exam. Because the course is online, you can choose when and where you would like to access the course, and you can finish the work as quickly as you would like.
The driving portion of the course that you will complete with A-1 Driving School can be started as soon as you would like, or you can wait until you have finished your online coursework. Can I get more information on quizzes and exams?

All quizzes must be passed with a score of 18 or higher. If scores are 17 or lower, students must retake the quiz until a score of at least 18 has been received.
Practice Exam
The practice exam has 100 questions and must be passed with a score of 80% or higher in order to advance to the final. We recommend taking the practice exam enough times to be completely comfortable with the material. Students are more likely to pass the final exam if they have received a score between 90%-100% on the practice exam. Please take the time to know the information well.
Final Exam
The final exam has 100 questions and is a part of the online coursework. It must be completed within the 60 days or you will have to pay an extension fee. The exam is password protected and must be taken at an A-1 Driving School location. Please call A-1 Driving School to make your appointment within your 60 day time limit. This exam must be passed with a score of 80% or higher. The test may be taken up to three times.

How do I get my learner's permit and schedule my driving time with A-1?
You must have a learner's permit in order to be able to drive with an A-1 Driving School instructor. In order to obtain a permit, go to the Utah Driver License Division (see a list of locations here) and take a 50 question test based on information from the Utah Driver's Handbook. This test may be taken at any time. The online portion of the course does not need to be finished in order to take it.
Please take the following with you:
Once you have obtained your learner’s permit, you must take it into an A‐1 Driving School location, fax it to the main A-1 office at 801-947-1221, or email a scanned copy to info@a-1drivingschool.com. Once you have shown A-1 proof of having your learner permit, they will give you the information you need to schedule your driving and observation hours. You have up to one year from when you register to complete your driving and observation hours.

- Certified Birth Certificate
- Social Security Card
- $15.00
- Eye glasses or medical information
- If the student is under the age of 18, a parent needs to provide two documents that show proof of being a Utah Resident.
- If the student is over the age of 18, they are required to provide two documents that show proof of being a Utah Resident.

What if I have questions about residency or requirements about obtaining my Utah Driver's License?
If you have questions regarding your residency or specific requirements you must meet to receive your Utah Driver’s License, please call the Driver’s License Division at 1-800-222-0038 Monday-Thursday from 7am-6pm or visit their website at www.publicsafety.utah.gov/dld
Where can I take my final driving exam and obtain my license?
Your final driving exam can be taken at a number of different locations. You can go to the Utah Driver License Division, or a third-party tester. For a complete list of Driver’s License Division locations in Utah click here. All of the Driver’s License Division offices, except the express offices, can accommodate you for your final driving exam.
Take the following with you to the Driver’s License Division:
- The fee for your final driving test and for obtaining your license:
- $30 if you are under 21
- $25 if you are over 21
- This fee covers 3 driving tests. If you decide to take your final driving test with a third-party tester you will still have to pay this fee to obtain your driver’s license.
- Certificate of completion from A-1 Driving School (You will receive this when you have completed all of your online work, your final written exam, and your driving and observation hours with A-1.)
- Learner's Permit
- Eye glasses or medical information
- If you are under 18 your parent will need to be present to sign for you
What if my video links are not working?
If you are having problems downloading the videos you may have a pop-up blocker turned on. There are pop-ups involved in bringing up the videos. This feature must be turned off in order to run the course. For Internet Explorer web browser, click Tools, highlight Pop-up Blocker, and then click Turn Off Pop-up Blocker. For Firefox web browser, click Tools, click Options, click on the Content icon, then remove the check mark beside the “Block Pop-up windows” option and click ok. If you are using a different web browser, search for this feature for your specific browser.

How do I get a refund?
A refund can be obtained if the student has been in the program less than 30 days. A $25 administrative fee will be assessed for all refunds. In order to receive the refund, fill out the Refund Form and mail or fax it to UVU Driver Education. A refund will be processed within one week from the time we receive the signed form.
