Overview
The Student Leadership and Mentoring Conference is all about student development through leadership and mentoring. This conference will be planned and conducted entirely by students and provide a venue for learning and leadership opportunities. This year, undergraduate students will submit proposals in three categories (best practices, research or program assessment) focusing on leadership and/or mentoring in any program or academic discipline. Students will present their methods, experiences and understanding to their peers. In addition to the great developmental experiences, participation in this conference, either as a volunteer or presenter, will be excellent for a graduate school portfolio, publication opportunities, or recognition on a resume for future employment opportunities.
Because this event is focused on student development, there will also be an opportunity for everyone involved to network and interact with each other during the conference. In addition, there will be a fun 5K Run on the Provo River Trail before the conference on the morning of Saturday, April 13th. There is a demand for several volunteers to help coordinate the Conference and the 5K Run. If you are interested in volunteering, click Volunteer Registration. If you are interested in submitting a presentation proposal, click Presentation Proposals (due no later than 5:00pm on April 1). If you are interested in registering for the pre-conference 5K Run or attending the conference, click Register Here (there are early bird rates and discounts if you participate in the 5K and conference).
Vision
Students need ongoing developmental experiences that validate and inform their current efforts as well as empower and qualify them for future opportunities. The Annual Leadership and Mentoring Conference at Utah Valley University will model student leadership and development as students plan and conduct the conference, providing a multiplicity of service, leadership and developmental opportunities for these participating students. In addition, the conference will provide opportunities for students to present research, program evaluations and best practices in the areas of student leadership, student development and peer mentoring in a wide range of academic disciplines and student affair programs for students enrolled in secondary and post-secondary institutions.
Mission
The Annual Leadership and Mentoring Conference at Utah Valley University provides relevant student developmental opportunities and promotes accomplishments in student leadership, student development, and peer mentoring at the secondary and post-secondary educational levels.
