Mission Statement Chinese Studies at UVU provides students with academic experiences, skills, and strategies to understand contemporary China, with its language, culture, ethics, politics and economy as well as its history, within scholarly and applied contexts. The program offers a Minor in Chinese Studies. After completion of the minor, graduates will have received a language and academic background that will prepare them relevant employment in the rapidly growing private sector enterprises that do business with or in China, in organizations and government agencies in China or related to China, and in the academic path. Graduates will have received the basic knowledge and analytical skills to enable them to pursue graduate degrees in fields related to Chinese Studies. The Chinese Studies minor emphasizes the traditional acquisition of knowledge and skills that apply to Area Studies / China, a vital competence in methods of intercultural communication, and an enthusiastic pursuit of how understanding and cooperation between China and the world can be fostered. This minor provides basic language skills, the similarly structured Minor in Chinese language targets at the professional path of interpretation and translation.
