The IPSH serves the support of international academic exchange and scholarly or scientific cooperation. The membership comes with no financial obligations. Postgraduate members are entitled to find doctor fathers within an international range at this school, to find an institution for passing in their thesis, to obtain support for their international research work and for the translation and publication of their works internationally.
Mission
UVU itself is not offering a Ph.D. program and currently also not planning on doing so in the future. The International Postgraduate School of Humanities is a network of postgraduates and Ph.D. advisers and/or their institutions, connecting UVU faculty with faculty of other universities in the network and is open to UVU graduates and other graduates of other universities of the network, who fulfill the requirements to enroll in a Ph.D. program offered by any of the universities of the network. The School is not an institutional part of UVU, although its headquarter and mailing address is currently located at UVU, because the current presidency is held by a UVU faculty member. Its headquarter and mailing address will move to a different university of the network when the presidency will be passed on. The network was established in 2008. Its purpose is to offer assistance during the writing process of the dissertation in addition to the support provided by existing structures (Ph.D. programmes, colloquia, etc.). The School is still in an early stage of development.
Ph.D. candidates can apply to the School for grants covering the cost of books, travel, and printing. The School also organizes meetings to encourage an interdisciplinary academic exchange, thus allowing candidates to broaden their horizons.
Students who have already gained a Master or Diploma qualification can find advisers and faculties here to conduct their Ph.D. studies. Advisers can use the network to translate and/or publish papers in other countries.
The main idea of the School is to provide a structure for the often unstructured and, as a consequence, long-lasting Ph.D. study programmes in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences, with a view to shortening the duration of the programme, and improving completion rates.
