Portrait of Karen Mizell

Dr. Karen Mizell

Professor, Department of Philosophy & Humanities

Dean’s Award of Excellence for Service

A profession of philosophy, Karen Mizell has held faculty positions at BYU, Clayton State College in Atlanta, Georgia, and the University of Oklahoma. She has been honored with numerous awards for her teaching, service-learning, and advising. Mizell came to UVU because of the commitment, vision and courage of UVU faculty, staff, and students who recognize the transformational possibilities of education for the individual and the community. She values those who defend and advance academic freedom, programs that educate rather than train students, and those who help disclose the talent, grace and high accomplishment that is within the reach of all of us. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, and a master’s and doctorate degree from the University of Oklahoma.

His leadership has propelled UVU’s Public Relations Student Society of America onto the national stage, with the chapter winning national honors including National Chapter of the Year. The most rewarding aspect of teaching at UVU, he says, is helping students prepare for success in the workplace and catch the vision of their potential and the understanding of personal and professional possibilities.
