Malala Yousafzai
(1997 -    )

Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani student, blogger, and activist who fights for the rights of women in the Islamic world. In 2012 she survived an assassination attempt by members of the Taliban.

Ms. Yousafzai began her activism in the 7th grade when she began blogging for the BBC about the plight of women in education in the Swat Valley. Her writing enraged Taliban leaders in the area and death threats soon followed.

Before the assassination attempt she wrote about a possibility of a confrontation with the Taliban: "I think of it often and imagine the scene clearly. Even if they come to kill me, I will tell them what they are trying to do is wrong, that education is our basic right."

You can watch in an interview with Malala on The Daily Show here.
