Scholarships
The College of Humanities & Social Sciences is dedicated to providing scholarship opportunities for students in need of financial aid. The following awards are available to full-time declared majors who are in good academic standing.
Dean’s Merit Awards
Dean’s Merit Awards are given out for Fall and Spring semesters. The criteria for these awards are:
- College of Humanities and Social Sciences major.
- Award amount will vary with the maximum being full-tuition for one or two semesters.
- GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Not renewable, but may reapply.
- Residency is required.
Applicants must complete an online application which can be found at: http://www.uvu.edu/financialaid/scholarships/index.html
Deadlines for applications are mandated by the University. New entering Freshman and Transfer students must complete their applications by February 1st (prior to the Fall semester you are entering). Continuing student applications are due by March 1st (prior to the Fall semester you are entering). If you miss your application deadline, you will not be given priority consideration. Dean’s Merit awards are very competitive. Each College is awarded a specific number of awards based upon funds available and enrollment. Typically we are allocated approximately 25 awards for our 5000+ majors. So, the application process is critical. Please take time on your essays. This is the opportunity you have to let us know why you should receive the award. We rely on those essays to help us make difficult decisions.
Award recipients will be contacted by the Financial Aid office and sent a contract. Once the contract is returned, funds will be allocated and released into the student account.
Private Scholarships
Due to the limited nature of our Dean’s Merit awards, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences actively seeks to raise funding for private scholarships. Private Scholarships are governed by individual committees and have differing criteria. These scholarships are funded completely by donations, not by university funding. This means that the amount of funding available varies from year to year depending upon donations received. Students receiving a private scholarship award will be notified by the Financial Aid office and sent a contract. Once the contract is returned, funds will be allocated and released into the student account.
