Entrance Loan Counseling

All students awarded a Perkins loan must complete entrance counseling before funds disburse to the students’ accounts. This must be completed for each term that you receive Perkins loan funds. Entrance counseling provides you with information about:

  • Your rights and responsibilities as a borrower;
  • Interest rate, amount borrowed, cancellation benefits, and forbearance/deferment qualifications;
  • Who to contact with questions.

Entrance counseling must be completed in person and takes about 30 minutes. Please call the Collections Office at 801.863.8611 to schedule an appointment. Before you call you must accept your Perkins Loan through UVLink.

Bring to your appointment:

At your appointment you will sign the Perkins Loan Disclosure, Rights and Responsibilities, and Master Promissory Note. Once this is completed the Financial Aid Office will be notified and will transfer the funds to your student account within the designated time period.

Exit Loan Counseling

Federal regulations and Utah Valley University policy require that students who borrow a Perkins loan must complete exit counseling before leaving school (graduate or withdraw) or drop below half-time (6 credits for undergraduate students and 4.5 for graduate students), regardless if you plan to transfer to another school.

This requirement is in place so that you will receive essential information regarding your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower. You will receive information about the loans you received, when and where to make your payments, what to do if you cannot make your payment and what can happen if you do not make your payments and default on your obligation.

Exit counseling must be completed in person. Please call the Collections Office at 801.863.8611 to schedule an appointment.

Students who fail to complete exit counseling will have a hold placed on their records. Holds restrict certain University services, release of transcripts and diplomas.
