Standard VI-7. Resources must be provided to acquire and maintain laboratory facilities that meet the needs of the program.
G. Laboratory and Computing Resources. Briefly describe the resources available for the program to acquire and maintain laboratory facilities. Include information on how the institution determines the adequacy of the resources.
The resources that are available to our students in the laboratory are quite exceptional. Our department is now located in a brand new building with new equipment. There are four general computer labs available to the CS programs and two labs configured for and dedicated to the networking courses in the CS programs. Computers in the labs are leased from Dell Computer and are state-of-the-art machines. Each computer is loaded with a standard lab load that contains all software needed for any of the classes being taught in the core CS courses. In addition, each machine is connected to the internet. The computers in the networking labs have the same standard configuration as the general lab computers but also have removable hard drives that allow students to install their own operating systems and networking software, customized to particular courses. Four additional Dell computers are set up in a lab accessible to students involved in research or classes requiring more computer power. These computers are dual-processor machines with increased speed and memory needed for advanced applications.
