Standard VI-9.There must be evidence that the institutional support and financial resources will remain in place throughout the period of accreditation.
I. Discuss and show evidence of continuity of institutional support for the program in the past, and problems that have existed or are anticipated in this area, if any.
The fact that the administration chose Computer Science to be one of the four original BS programs at UVU is one indication of the support given to the program. In spite of workload mandates by the board of regents, restricted funding by the legislature and other outside influences, the administration has continued to show its support. Though the board of regents has set a workload level of 15 hours/semester, the administration has allowed the work load to be adjusted to conform to ABET standards. Though there have been some problems attracting faculty members to positions in the CS department, new positions have been made available every year for the past ten years. With limited funding the administration did make parity adjustments to the CS salaries last year. The administration has always been open to suggestions on funding for hardware and software and funded lease agreements to keep the labs operating with state-of-the-art hardware and the latest software. The newest building on campus was designated for Computer Science and Engineering in recognition of the value of the CS program.
