We Use Math - Web site hosted by Brigham Young University's Math Department that provides lots of interesting links, useful not just for students but also for college faculty, high school teachers, parents and other trying to help students understand how important math is in real life.

MAA Career Profiles - The Mathematical Association of America provides a variety of non-academic careers for which a background in the mathematical sciences is useful. Each of the jobs presented shows real people in real jobs.

AWM - The Association for Women in Mathematics provides "Links for Biographies" of women in the mathematical sciences and science in general. From there you can link to the "Essay Contest - Biographies of Contemporary Women in Mathematics" Web page and read about this opportunity.

You can also join the AWM Mentor Network, which matches mentors with girls and women who are interested in mathematics or are pursuing careers in mathematics. The network is intended to link mentors with a variety of groups: recent Ph.D.s, graduate students, undergraduates, high school and grade school students and teachers. Matching is based on common interests in careers in academics or industry, math education, balance of career and family or general mathematical interests.

Biographies of Women Mathematicians

MAA NumberADay - MAA's new NumberADay blog highlights a different number every workday and lists some of its interesting properties.

NPR's "Science Friday" - Listen to the live broadcast, the audio podcast and the video Web cast of the Radio Program on girls, women and mathematics. First, actress Danica McKellar, who also has a bachelor's degree in mathematics from UCLA, talks about her new book, "Math Doesn't Suck," which aims to encourage middle school girls to overcome any aversion they may have to math and learn to excel at it. She says being smart and good at math is very cool. Plus, a team of U.S. girls recently traveled to China to compete in the China Girls Mathematical Olympiad and held their own, with one team member tying for first place. One of the team's coaches, and a member of the U.S. girl's team speak about the trip to China, which began with three weeks at a summer math camp. Also appearing on the show with host Ira Flatow is Dr. Maria Klawe, President of Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA. She talks about the best ways to boost the number of girls and women who succeed in mathematics.

Is is a residential program that offers an opportunity for bright and mathematically gifted students to expand their mathematical horizon, improve problem solving skills and explore areas in advanced mathematics.
