Math Refresher Workshops

Summer/Fall 2013

The Math Refresher Workshops at Utah Valley University are primarily designed for students who have been away from mathematics for two or more years. However, registration is open to any student (including those attending other institutions) wishing to review college algebra concepts before beginning further courses. The Math Refresher Workshops are designed to prepare students for specific mathematics courses following college algebra such as Math 1060 Trigonometry, Math 1100 Introduction to Calculus, Math 1210 Calculus I, Math 2040 Principles of Statistics, and Math 2010/2020 Math for Elementary Teachers.

The Math Refresher Workshops are course specific, and can only be used for the semester for which it is taken; students should register for the workshop corresponding to their Summer/Fall 2013 math enrollment. Workshops for Math 1100 and Math 1210 are $45 while workshops for Math 1060, Math 2040, and Math 2010/2020 are $35. There is a $5 cancellation fee for the workshop which is non-refundable.

For students whose college algebra was taken two or more years ago, proof of workshop registration, together with a C or better in Math 1050, can be used in place of the ACCUPLACER test for placement into Math 1060, Math 1100, Math 2010/2020, or Math 2040. Proof of workshop registration, together with a C or better in both Math 1050 and Math 1060, can be used for placement into Math 1210. In the event that attendance at the workshop is not possible, the ACCUPLACER exam may be used for placement.

The workshop can be used in place of the ACCUPLACER one time only; if you do not pass your Summer/Fall 2013 MATH course, you will need to either repeat the prerequisite course or place into the course with the ACCUPLACER placement test.

Students using the workshops for placement must attend every session of their scheduled workshop, arriving no more than 10 minutes late and leaving no more than ten minutes early, in order to maintain placement. Students who do not attend every session, who arrive late or leave early, or who are otherwise disruptive to the educational experience of other students will be administratively withdrawn from their Summer/Fall 2013 course. Placement can be re-established through the ACCUPLACER exam.

After registering for the workshop, contact a math advisor with your registration confirmation for a prerequisite override (if needed) in order to register for Summer/Fall Semester classes.

Workshops are held before the Summer/Fall Semester begins. For specific days and times for each workshop, follow the registration link below.
