Direct Entry Nursing Application Process
PROGRAM INFORMATION:
Nursing core course work begins after matriculation into the program. Prerequisite courses are open to all students on campus; however, entrance into the nursing program, is by competitive application and is restricted to a limited number of openings each semester. There is no waiting list for the program and there are no guarantees of acceptance; not all students who meet the minimum eligibility requirements will be accepted.
You are eligible to APPLY if all 10 prerequisite courses are done and posted on a transcript by the application deadline .
All general education course work which is listed within the program (GE requirements are any course without a "NURS" prefix) can be taken prior to entry. A grade of "B-" or better is required for prerequisite and nursing course requirements.
Applying to the nursing program at UVU includes:
- Submitting an APPLICATION to UVU
- Submitting an APPLICATION to NURSING, which includes:
- a completed Nursing Application Form
- transcripts from all campuses where prerequisites have been completed OR a print out of the transfer credits awarded at UVU, from UVLink
- TEAS Test results
APPLICATION TO UVU:
All applicants must have a current UVU application on file. If you . . .
. . . have never attended UVU, submit a UVU application and pay the one-time fee. Application can be done either online at www.UVU.edu or in person at One Stop, BA 106. Along with your application, you must also official high school and college transcripts from all colleges attended. College transcripts MUST be official and can either be hand-delivered in a sealed envelope or sent directly to the Admissions Office. All transcripts are then sent to the Transfer Services Office, where evaluation and posting of credits to the UVU record will be completed.
. . . have applied to UVU before, but either never attended or have not attended classes for a year or more, you must submit an updated application to be readmitted to the campus; there is no additional fee. Make sure the most current transcripts from all other campuses have been submitted to Admissions so that all college course work can be evaluated and posted to your UVU record.

Spring Semesters begin the first week of January and run through the end of April. Application is made for a specific semester only, according to the following time frames:
If you wish to enter the program in a FALL Semester:

- Application Closes: 3rd Friday in May @ 4 pm
If you wish to enter the program in a SPRING Semester:
-
Application Opens: 3rd Monday in August
- Application Closes: 3rd Friday in October @ 4 pm
If any of these dates land on a holiday, the opening and/or closing date would move to the next business day. The Department of Nursing office will CLOSE at 4:00 pm on the day the application period closes.
NURSING APPLICATION PROCESS:
Once eligibility requirements have been met, the nursing application process can begin. Items necessary for this process include:
- Nursing Application Form - Application forms are specific to a semester and are not available year-round. Application forms are only available when an application period is "open," as indicated by the opening and closing dates listed above. When available, they can be obtained either in the Career and Academic Counseling Center (LC 402) from the Pre-Nursing Advisor, or they can be printed off our website at http://www.uvu.edu/csh/nursing/student/material/forms.html
-
Transcripts -
- A copy of your transcripts showing your prerequisite course work must be included with your application.
- If one or more prerequisite has been taken at another college: Until posted to your UVU record, transfer credits are pending and may not satisfy credits for the nursing program. Therefore we strongly suggest this process be completed as quickly as possible before application to nursing. In order for this process to take place, official transcripts from all campuses attended must be submitted to the UVU Admissions Office (NOT the Department of Nursing!!). Once transcripts are received in the Admissions Office, it will take 2-3 weeks for this process to be completed. Once posted, only a printout of the "Transfer Credit Awarded" page from UVLink will be required with your nursing application.
- -TEAS Test - The TEAS Test is a 170-item, four-option, multiple-choice assessment, developed to measure basic essential skills in the academic content areas of Reading, Mathematics, Science and English/Language Usage. These entry level skills were deemed important for nursing program applicants by a panel of nursing program curriculum experts. The TEAS Test is a scored part of the application; therefore it is
REQUIRED FOR ALL APPLICANTS!!
- The test is administered by UVU's Testing Services Office only during open application periods (see "APPLICATION PERIODS" above). A test voucher, issued by the Pre-Nursing Advisor, is required in order to test. The cost of the test is $35, payable to the Testing Services Office at the time of testing; only cash payments are accepted. One retest per application period is allowed; however, a minimum of three weeks is required between tests. Scores are only valid for one year. When testing is complete, results will be provided to you and you are responsible for submitting those scores to the Nursing Department Office to finalize your application. Study materials for the TEAS Test are available both in the UVU Bookstore or online at www.atitesting.com.
