Contemporary Dance Company
Contemporary Dance Ensemble is a pre-professional level modern dance company and upper division course in the Department of Dance at Utah Valley University. CDE's mission is to provide opportunities for advanced level B.F.A. dance majors to perform contemporary choreographic works of the UVU Modern Dance Faculty and of nationally and internationally recognized choreographers.
Contemporary Dance Ensemble was founded in 2006 by Artistic Director, Doris Hudson-Trujillo. Within this brief period of time CDE has been recognized and honored with several prestigious invitations from juried events. In 2007 CDE was honored with the invitation to perform Angela Banchero-Kelleher’s work, “2001 and Still Counting” in the gala concert of the Northwest Regional American College Dance Festival and most recently CDE's Artistic Director Doris Hudson-Trujillo’s work “Resilire” was presented in a professional forum at the American Dance Guild's Performance Festival in New York City.
CDE has featured the works of Artistic Director Doris Hudson-Trujillo, UVU faculty Angela Banchero-Kelleher and internationally acclaimed guest artists Charlotte Boye-Christensen, Susan McLain, Youssouf Koumbassa, and Lynne Wimmer. The company has also featured several collaborative works and projects that brought to the stage the paintings of renowned artist Hyunmee Lee, the performances of Alex Caldiero, and the Utah Valley University String Quartet in performance of an original score by Marden Pond.
Dance majors audition into the company each year and perform in one fully produced concert at the Ragan Theater as well as a variety of informal and formal concerts in other venues. CDE was invited to perform in "The Gift of the Arts Whisperer" a collaborative dance theatre piece commissioned by the Utah Arts Council and the Utah State Office of Education.
