Expanding the
Reach of the University

Mission

Distance Education (DE) extends the reach of the physical campus to offer courses, degrees, and related services that help meet students' evolving educational needs. Through the integration of new technologies into teaching and research, DE encourages innovation in instruction and enables the realization of a purposeful, technology-enhanced curriculum that provides additional educational opportunities, fosters engaged learning, and advances the standards of academic quality at UVU.

Administration

The Administrative Services and Scheduling unit oversees operational, financial and scheduling activities for Distance Education. They coordinate with departments and academic scheduling to offer a wide range of Online, Live Interactive, and Broadcast courses. Administration and Scheduling collaborate with University departments and state agencies to serve regional needs.

Support Services

Support Services provides full technical and logistical support to UVU faculty and students. From monitoring student progress to working with DE students to ensure they meet course deadlines, our support specialists offer steps and strategies for successful course completion.

Support Services focuses on promoting student success through multiple communication channels and procedures aimed at encouraging and facilitating academic achievement and integrity.

Instructional
Design Services

Instructional Design Services (IDS) integrates both current and emerging instructional design theories in the delivery of effective distance learning solutions. The IDS unit features a staff of knowledgeable, creative and responsive designers and developers who assist faculty in producing rich educational content through customized instructional design.

Instructional Creative Services

Instructional Creative Services (ICS), an integral element of IDS, is a team of experts that aid faculty in creating integrated graphic design, photography, video, animation and emerging instructional media that enhance educational content.

Innovation in
Instruction and Technology

The Innovation in Instruction and Technology team promotes innovative approaches to education that integrate educational technologies throughout the curriculum. They support faculty and departments in the development of hybrid courses through workshops and individual consultations. IIT also provides an array of training and events that build confidence in technology and explore a variety methods of improving teaching and learning.

The Innovation Center

Technical Operations

The Technical Operations unit is responsible for the assessment, design, implementation and technical support for all Distance Education technologies.

They provide peerless one-on-one assistance to faculty during Live Interactive class broadcasts while extending tier 2 technical support to UVU students and faculty via phone, e-mail and live chat.
