STUDENT SERVICE

AWARD

Zachary Lyman

Zachary Lyman is committed to helping those in need. As a UVU student, he initiated several emergency response programs on campus to ensure the campus community has necessary to serve students, faculty and staff.

Lyman researched, founded and now directs UVU’s student-run Emergency Response Team. He internalized engaged learning by creating a team of dedicated students that answer 911 calls on campus providing medical support.

He also was instrumental in establishing an Emergency Services club and also initiated service projects to help emergency service management students succeed outside of the classroom. Lyman also created a peer tutoring program through which emergency services students can get help with homework and other skills.

He accomplished all this while teaching as an adjunct instructor and working full-time in the emergency room at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. Last spring, Lyman graduated from UVU with two bachelor’s degrees, but his efforts and programs continue to have a lasting impact for the campus community.
