The Equity in Education Center at Utah Valley University is pleased to announce the
Empowering Your Tomorrow Conference
being held on Saturday, November 7, 2009. This conference is designed for 6th - 12th grade boys and will introduce them to a variety of exciting careers they can pursue if they continue their education. This conference is similar to the
Expanding Your Horizons Conference,
which is held annually for girls. Information on the

Boys will be able to attend three breakout sessions, choosing from a wide variety of careers ranging from Firefighter, Highway Patrol Trooper, Computer Programmer, Zoologist, to Graphic Designer and many more. Parents and educators are also encouraged to attend with their boys and enjoy specially designed workshops on how to help boys succeed in their educational, career and life pursuits. All conference registrants will receive a packet of conference related materials, lunch and t-shirt. The conference will also feature interactive booths from various UVU departments and community organizations that will give boys the opportunity to explore additional career fields and resources available to them.
Keynote Speaker:
Darin Taylor
Darin Taylor is one of the most decorated and recognized professors on the Utah Valley University campus. His fun and engaging method of teaching has earned him the Faculty Excellence Award on two occasions. He has also been recognized by the UVU Alumni Association as the Outstanding Educator of the Year on two separate occasions. Darin Taylor also serves as the Director of the UVU SkillsUSA program and under his leadership, UVU has won four national championships.
