History of the RCA

The Recruit Candidate Academy (RCA) at Utah Valley University graduated its first class in April 1998 under the leadership of Gary Noll M.Ed. (USAF Chief, retired). Since that time, more than 70 classes have graduated from the RCA totaling more than 1000 recruit candidates. Since the beginning the RCA has incorporated individual skill-based training into live fire company evolutions. Graduates also certify in four important operational levels of competence. The program is fully accredited and widely recognized in the state and the nation and graduates work not only in Utah, but throughout the U.S.A. and the world. The RCA instructor cadre consists of top fire service professionals in Utah that are typically leaders within their own department. Many instructors have also been RCA graduates at one time and have gained many valuable years of experience in their own departments. Since the early days of the RCA, the fleet of engines and complexity and flexibility of the training ground have grown tremendously. State of the art facilities make the RCA the best experience possible to prepare for an entry level position in the Emergency Services.
