Gayla Amosa, Academic Advisor for Basic Composition/ESL

Gayla AmosaOur new Academic Advisor for Basic Composition and ESL, is Gayla Amosa. She is from the North Shore of Oahu, in Hawaii. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Design/Art from California State University Dominguez Hills, a teaching degree from Brigham Young University Hawaii in secondary education and a Master's Degree in Counseling from the University of Phoenix. She taught Art at Kahuku High in Hawaii for eight years and was a counselor there for the last ten years. Gayla enjoys spending time with family, camping, swimming, and hiking. She also loves reading good books and writing. What she likes best about working at UVU with the ESL and basic comp students and staff and faculty is the great friendly atmosphere. She says, "Everyone is so welcoming and helpful. It just feels like home."

Elizabeth Nield, Operations Coordinator - English as a Second Language Department and Community Ed ESL Courses

Elizabeth NieldIs from Cancun, Mexico and she has a B.A. from LA SALLE Cancun University in Business Administration. She has experience in human relations, customer service, and quality control for 8 years at hotels in Mexico and in United States. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, snowmobiling, swimming, camping, hiking, and watching movies. Also, Elizabeth likes to work for Basic Composition and ESL department because she gets to meet interesting students and the different cultures that they are from.

Juan Carlos Fuentes, ESL Administrative Assistant

Juan Carlos FuentesIs from Mexico City and he grew up into a lovely family. He is the oldest of five brothers, he studied Accounting in Mexico, and at UVU he is studying Business Management. He likes to organize, create and to be involved in projects. Juan enjoys having time with his family, eat together, and talk with them. Also, he likes to watch movies with his friends, play in the snow, swim, and play basketball.

Enkhtaivan Gansukh, Student Assistant for English as a Second Language Department

Enkhtaivn GansukhOur new Student Assistant for English as a Second Language Department, is Enkhtaivan Gansukh. He is from Ulan Bator, Mongolia. He graduated from Elite International School and now he is pursuing Business Marketing Education at UVU. As an International Student Counsel volunteer, he actively helps with many events. His motivation is to become a successful business man. He is good at public relations, and with computers. He has a great attitude and is diligent. His desire to work for ESL department came from seeing how creative and energetic it is. He enjoys the most by working with people and his hobbies are playing poolbillard, swimming, watching movies, rock climbing and working on computer.

Ka Yiu Wong, Student Assistant for English as a Second Language Department

Enkhtaivn GansukhI was born and raised in Hong Kong, China. I am currently majoring in Journalism and minoring in Digital Media. I anticipate graduating in the Spring of 2015. I love learning new languages and different cultures. It is a privilege to be able to work for the Basic Composition and ESL department and make friends with people from around the world. In my free time, I enjoy cooking and baking.

Victoria Paspuel, Student Assistant for English as a Second Language Department

Enkhtaivn GansukhIs from Quito, Ecuador. She is a sophomore at UVU, currently pursuing a degree in International Business and a minor in Chinese. She has a great passion for languages, new cultures and traveling. She went to China this summer to study Chinese at a local university with the UVU Study Abroad Program. She likes to be busy most of the time, and she loves being involved with the community. She enjoys hang out with friends, rock climbing, playing volleyball, watching movies and dancing Latin music. She is part of the 2014-15 Study Abroad Student Ambassadors at UVU. She is very excited to be working for the Basic Composition and ESL Department and help each of you to make the ESL program an unforgettable experience.

Alejandro Fernandez, Student Assistant for English as a Second Language Department

Enkhtaivn GansukhHe is from Sogamoso, Colombia. He is already graduated from ESL program.  He finished his studies of Industrial Engineer and MA at Business Administration in Colombia. He loves to learn new languages and different cultures. He is very happy to work in the ESL Department.

Kristine Bucasas, Student Assistant for English Conversation Club


Enkhtaivn GansukhThough Kristine was born and raised here in Utah, she is very custom to her Filipino culture. She will be majoring in Communications, emphasis in Journalism and is taking a minor in Biology. Kristine's passion for public speaking, learning different cultures, and helping others out is what draws her close to the ESL department.
