For students whose native
language is other than English.

Introduces English writing
conventions, including applied grammar and usage, word choice, style,
organization, idea development, and technical accuracy.

Introduces students to simple
academic writing tasks.

Includes weekly use of the UC
Computer Classroom where beginning writing skills are emphasized and
practiced.
Course Objectives
This
course

introduces students to beginning
level academic writing tasks such as

writing a simple,
multiple-paragraph academic text of 100-400 words;
-
creating a correct simple thesis
statement;

using standard essay format such
as
-
paragraph indentation,
-
title,
-
double-spacing, etc.

using basic transition forms
such as
-
time,
-
addition,
-
contrast, etc.
-
helps students learn to use correct methods for
creating basic email messages in English;

includes weekly use of the UVU Computer Classroom
where beginning writing and computer skills are emphasized and practiced.
