Studies low-intermediate concepts
of pronunciation intonation, stress, and English phonics

Expands use of simple statements,
questions, and commands on familiar topics as well as academic lectures, and
conversations.

Includes weekly use of the UVU Language
Lab where low-intermediate conversation skills are emphasized and practiced
Course Objectives
This course
-
introduces
students to low-intermediate academic writing tasks such as
-
writing
a traditional five paragraph essay, with an introductory paragraph, body
of three supporting paragraphs and appropriate transitions, and a
conclusion paragraph;
-
creating
a correct thesis statement containing a topic and controlling idea;
-
choosing
appropriate low-intermediate academic topics
-
using
an outline as part of developing writing topics
-
using
a traditional paragraph structure including topic sentences, supporting
details with appropriate transitions;
-
develops
low-intermediate writing skills, such as
-
using
common language structures to support a thesis statement,
-
using
teacher feedback and self-editing to revise and improve paragraphs and
essays,.

encourages
use of ESL tutoring services and the UVU writing lab;
-
includes
weekly use of the University College Computer Classroom where low-intermediate
writing and computer skills are emphasized and practiced.
