The Center for the Study of Ethics supports and facilitates the study of environmental
ethics and related issues. For the past twenty-five years, the center has hosted the
annual David R. Keller Symposium to explore the complex relations between human beings
and the natural world. Previous conferences include titles “Energy Alternatives for
the Twenty-First Century,” “Ecosystems Ethics and Environmental Policy,” and “What
is the Value of Wilderness?” Participants in the program have included J. Baird Callicott,
David Rothenberg, Terry Tempest Williams, Tom Zeller, Jr., Deni Elliott, Chip Ward,
and Robert Solomon.
In memory of our colleague, the center supports the David R. Keller Sustainability Prize given to organizations in our community in support of exceptional innovation and leadership on sustainability issues. These may include governmental, non-profit, and for-profit organizations.
