Democracy Week 2008
As a part of the 3 year program "Utah Democracy Project", The Democracy House Project will hold an annual 'Democracy Week'. Democracy Week is a series of public education opportunities the week before voting day on November 6. Here is the schedule for 2008:
Wednesday, October 22nd, 6-8 p.m (just before Democracy Week)
UVU Library Timpanogos Room
Moderator training workshop will be held for all area residents, who may be interested in learning how to facilitate public dialogues.
Monday October 27th, 7 p.m.
Public Readings - Provo Library
Readings from the Declaration of Independence; the Preamble to the Constitution along with the Bill of Rights, followed by a public discussion. These events will be held in local libraries and the readings will be by local elected officials, with trained moderators facilitating the ensuing discussions.
Tuesday October 28th, 7 p.m.
Public Readings - Orem Library
Readings from the Declaration of Independence; the Preamble to the Constitution along with the Bill of Rights, followed by a public discussion. These events will be held in local libraries and the readings will be by local elected officials, with trained moderators facilitating the ensuing discussions.
Wednesday October 29th, 7 p.m.
Public Readings - American Fork Library
Readings from the Declaration of Independence; the Preamble to the Constitution along with the Bill of Rights, followed by a public discussion. These events will be held in local libraries and the readings will be by local elected officials, with trained moderators facilitating the ensuing discussions.
Thursday, October 30th, 7 p.m.
Public Forum - UVU Library, Timpanogos Room
A public forum will be convened for a nonpartisan dialogue on the issue of Citizen Involvement vs. Apathy: Reclaiming the Public Role in Democracy.
Saturday, November 1st
Door-to-Door Non-Partisan Education - Provo / Orem Neighborhoods
On Saturday, volunteers will go door-to-door in Provo/Orem neighborhoods, strictly in a nonpartisan manner, encouraging people to vote and handing cards upon which are written down how to identify who represents that neighborhood at every level of government along with sources and web-sites to gain information on how our elected representatives are governing and how ordinary citizens can get involved and influence the political process after the election.

Democracy Summit - UVU Library, Timpanogos Room
On Monday, November 3rd, the last day of Democracy Week, a Democracy Summit will be convened to bring together elected officials and ordinary citizens and residents to dialogue with each other about democracy, citizenship, and how to make both work better. We will dialogue around the question: "How can we reconnect the public with their government?".
