Ethics Awareness Week

Ethics Awareness Week

To kick off the new academic year, the Center for the Study of Ethics holds Ethics Awareness Week in September.  We begin the year having invited UVU Faculty to submit proposals for sessions.  Every faculty member, every student, every staff member, ever community member is welcome to sumbit panels.  The Center funds the selected sessions, usually centered on themes and presented by combinations of academic, community, and student voices with an audience of similar makeup.  The following list represents some of the sessions we have enjoyed.

  • The Ethics of Prize Dog Fighting: The Recupeation of Michael Vick's Fighting Dogs
  • The Ethics of Personal Electronics in the Class (student group)
  • The Ethical Philosophy of Robert Solomon
  • B.ikers.Against.Child.Abuse (B.A.C.A.) Exelllence in Ethics Award Winner: Biker Ethics and Protecting Children
  • Senator Orrin Hatch: Ethics and Government: Q & A
  • Public Session: UVSCSU and Michael Moore -- Was it Unethical for the Student Body Association to Invite Michael Moore
  • The Dalai Lama
  • Kirk Englehardt Business Lecture Award winner: ???
  • Close to My Heart Scrapbooking

As one can see -- the Center focuses on ethical content in a variety of settings and tones.  Our goal is as a part of the international effort to promote Ethics Across the Curriculum, to continue to foster the sort of dialog that brings into clear focus the sort of ethical dilemna's that face us every day.

Like all events held by the Center for the Study of Ethics, Ethics Awareness Week is free and open to the public.  We welcome students, faculty, community members and interested people everywhere.
