Students Consulting on Teaching
About the SCOT program
The Students Consulting on Teaching (SCOT) Program began at Utah Valley University in the year 2008 under
the guidance of the UVU Faculty Center for Teaching Excellence. It is an ever growing and eveloping program. The SCOT program functions as a resource for faculty to receive confidential, immediate feedback concerning their teaching. A trained student consultant is assigned to a professor who requests the service and then the student consultant works directly with the professor. Student Consultants can observe, conduct a focus group with a class, film the class, act as a faux student, or the professor and student consultant can create an original approach to improve the teaching and learning environment for the course, for example websites have been created, research has been conducted, and tests have been designed. Overall, the program has received positive feedback and response from the faculty at UVU. The program expects to maintain 10-20 SCOTs over the coming years. The SCOT program hopes to transform teaching at UVU by working with professors to encourage an engaged, learner-center teaching environment where teachers and students can succeed! |
