The Utah Resident Freshman Academic Merit Scholarship is determined by your academic performance in high school. 

Students who have completed the Admissions process by February 1st will automatically be considered. The Scholarship Application is not required.

Award notification for Academic Scholarships will be sent to your myUVU email by March 1st.

The following criteria grid shows the required GPA and ACT scores for new student academic merit consideration. 

Resident Freshman Grid with SAT/ACT and GPA requirements., Presidential (Academic Merit) Scholarship: Students with GPA of 3.9 or higher and ACT score of 30-36, SAT score of 1600-1340 before march 2016, SAT score of 1600-1400 after March 2016. Exemplary (Academic Merit) Scholarship: Students with GPA of 3.9-4.0, ACT score of 27-29, SAT score of 1220-1300 before March 2016, SAT score of 1290-1360 after March 2016, or GPA of 3.8, ACT score of 28-36, SAT score of 1260-1600 before March 2016, SAT score of 1320-1600 after March 2016, or GPA of 3.7, ACT score of 29-36, SAT score of 1300-1600 before March 2016, SAT score of 1360-1600 after March 2016. Outstanding: GPA of 3.5, ACT score of 28-36, SAT score of 1260-1600 before March 2016, SAT score of 1320-1600 after March 2016, or GPA of 3.6, ACT score of 27-28, SAT score of 1220-1260 before March 2016, SAT score of 1290-1320 after March 2016, or GPA of 3.7, ACT score of 25-28, SAT score of 1150-1260 before March 2016, SAT score of 1220-1320 after March 2016, or GPA of 3.8, ACT score of 25-27, SAT score of 1110-1220 before March 2016, SAT score of 1180-1290 after March 2016, or GPA of 3.9-4.0, ACT score of 25-26, SAT score of 1150-1190 before March 2016, SAT score of 1220-1260 after March 2016. Distinguished: GPA of 3.3, ACT score of 29-36, SAT score of 1300-1600 before March 2016, SAT score of 1290-1600 after March 2016, or GPA of 3.4, ACT score of 27-36, SAT score of 1220-1600 before March 2016, SAT score of 1290-1320 after March 2016, or GPA of 3.5, ACT score of 25-27, SAT score of 1150-1220 before March 2016, SAT score of 1220-1290 after March 2016, or GPA of 3.6, ACT score of 24-26, SAT score of 1110-1190 before March 2016, SAT score of 1180-1260 after March 2016, or GPA of 3.7-4.0, ACT score of 24, SAT score of 1110 before March 2016, SAT score of 1180 after March 2016.

 

Presidential = 'P'


Pays full tuition and general student fees (as notated on the Current Tuition Tables). You may owe other fees associated with your coursework. You can view your balance in myUVU. You must read and accept your award contract by the specified date on your award contract.

This scholarship is renewable for four years, or until you receive your bachelor’s degree, whichever is sooner, as long as you have met the cumulative GPA requirement of 3.7 and have earned 15 credit hours for this scholarship. If renewed, award notification will be sent to your myUVU email by June 1st. You must read and accept your award contract each year by the appropriate deadline listed on your award contract.

 

Exemplary = 'E'


Pays $4,000 each year ($2,000 Fall semester and $2,000 Spring semester). You will owe the remaining tuition, general student fees (as notated on the Current Tuition Tables), and other fees associated with your coursework. You can view your balance in myUVU. You must read and accept your award contract by the specified date on your award contract.

This scholarship is renewable for four years, or until you receive your bachelor’s degree, whichever is sooner, as long as you have met the cumulative GPA of 3.5 and have earned 15 credit hours for this scholarship. If renewed, award notification will be sent to your myUVU email by June 1st. You must read and accept your award contract each year by the appropriate deadline listed on your award contract.

 

Outstanding = 'O'


Pays $3,500 each year ($1,750 Fall semester and $1,750 Spring semester). You will owe the remaining tuition, general student fees (as notated on the Current Tuition Tables), and other fees associated with your coursework. You can view your balance in myUVU. You must read and accept your award contract by the specified date on your award contract.

This scholarship is renewable for two years, or until you receive your bachelor’s degree, whichever is sooner, as long as you have met the cumulative GPA of 3.2 and have 12 credit hours for this scholarship. If renewed, award notification will be sent to your myUVU email by June 1st. You must read and accept your award contract each year by the appropriate deadline listed on your award contract.

 

Distinguished = 'D'


Pays $2,000 ($1,000 Fall semester and $1,000 Spring semester). You will owe the remaining tuition, general student fees (as notated on the Current Tuition Tables), and other fees associated with your coursework. You can view your balance in myUVU. You must read and accept your award contract by the specified date on your award contract. 

This scholarship is not renewable. It is for one year only.

REQUIREMENTS

  • You must be admitted to UVU before the deadline of February 1st.
  • Submit ACT or SAT Scores before the deadline of February 1st.
  • NOTE: Completion of the Online Scholarship Application is not required for consideration for this specific scholarship. Submission of transcripts, completion of other requirements, and scores falling into the qualified ranges is considered the application.
  • SAT composite score consists of critical reading and math.
  • If you meet the Utah Resident Freshman Academic Merit Scholarship criteria, you will automatically be considered for the scholarship.
  • Award notification for new student Academic Merit Resident Scholarships will be sent to your myUVU email by March 1st.
