Nonresident Waivers

Welcome to Utah Valley University. Even as a non-Utah resident, you may qualify for in-state tuition at UVU — that’s about $2,600 per semester. Below is information on our non-resident (out-of-state) reduced tuition program. See requirements below to see if you qualify. Students are only eligible for one of these options, even if they qualify for both.

TRANSFER STUDENTS

OPTION 1: Merit-based: full one-year nonresident waiver

DEADLINE: August 8th for Fall  December 8th for Spring

Recipient pays resident portion/one-year- nonrenewable

Requirements - Refer to Scholarship Grid (below)

  • Cumulative 3.5 or higher transfer GPA (Religion Classes GPA excluded)
  • Completed 24 or more college credits at an institution other than UVU (excluding Concurrent Enrollment, AP Classes, Remedial, Developmental and Religion Classes)
  • Have never previously attended UVU
  • Maintain at least 3.2 GPA for 2nd semester
  • Students must be registered for a minimum of 12 credits
  • These requirements are new starting the 17-18 academic year
  • For the Spring 2017 Semester the requirements are:  3.2 cumulative GPA 
  • Completed 30 or more college credits at an institution other than UVU (excluding Concurrent Enrollment, AP Classes, Remedial, Developmental and Religion Classes)

Considerations

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen to receive this waiver
  • F-1 Visa International Students are not eligible (please visit http://www.uvu.edu/iss/scholarships/ for more information)
  • Students enrolled in –ESL, Global Aviation and/or Off-Budget programs are not eligible
  • Students who have graduated with a BS and/or BA degree are not eligible
  • Time in Utah may count towards Utah Residency
  • Cannot be placed on hold.

To Apply

  • You need to be admitted to UVU and have provided your official grade transcript(s) for consideration. Award notifications will be sent to your myUVU email with instructions on how to view and accept/decline the award.

Students are encouraged to gain residency during their first year.

 

TRANSFER NON-RESIDENT STUDENT WAIVER GRID

Deadline for Non-Resident Waiver: December 8th for Spring 2017

NonResident Transfer Grid

Non-Resident Waiver:The Scholarship Application is not required for this waiver. You will be awarded if you meet the qualifications by the deadline. 

Pays the nonresident portion of tuition. You will owe resident tuition, all general student fees (as notated on the Current Tuition Tables), and any other fees associated with your coursework. Example, if resident tuition is $2,000 and nonresident tuition is $7,000, your scholarship will be $5,000 and you will owe $2,000 in tuition, all general student fees (as notated on the Current Tuition Tables), and any other fees associated with your coursework. You can view your balance in myUVU. You must read and accept your award contract by the specified date on your award contract.

This scholarship is not renewable. It is available for only one year.

Concurrent, AP, Religion, Remedial, and Dual classes are not counted in the required transfer credit hours. Transfer students applying with less than 24 credits will be evaluated based on their high school GPA and ACT/SAT scores.

If considering applying for Utah Residency at Utah Valley University, the time in Utah, while receiving this scholarship, can be considered.

 

OPTION 2: Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE): 150% resident rate.

DEADLINE: August 8th for Fall • December 8th for Spring

Requirements

  • Must be from a participating WICHE State
  • Students must be registered for at least 15 credits and maintain at least 2.0 GPA at UVU
  • WUE can be received for up to 10 semesters, provided the above criteria is met each semester

Considerations

  • Time in Utah DOES NOT count towards Utah Residency
  • State of residency is one of the 15 eligible WICHE states (Alaska, Hawaii, Northern Marianas Islands, California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota).
  • Must be enrolled in an eligible WUE major
  • May not defer admission

 

 

NEW FRESHMAN

OPTION 1: Merit-based: full one-year nonresident waiver

  • 3.3 or higher High School GPA (this GPA is unweighted)
  • 24 ACT (SAT 1110) or higher (Critical Reading and Math Score for SAT)
  • Maintain at least 3.2 GPA to be eligible for 2nd semester
  • Students must be registered for at least 12 credits
  • Entering student with less than 24 college credits (excluding Concurrent Enrollment, AP Classes,Remedial, Developmental and Religion Classes)*

Considerations

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen to receive this waiver
  • F-1 Visa International Students are not eligible (please visit http://www.uvu.edu/iss/scholarships/ for more information)
  • Students enrolled in –ESL, Global Aviation and/or Off-Budget programs are not eligible
  • Transfer Students who have less than 24 credit hours will be considered Freshman for this waiver and must provide their High School Grade Transcript and ACT/SAT Scores
  • Time in Utah may count towards Utah Residency
  • Cannot be placed on hold

Consideration for Academic Merit Scholarships will not be given to any applicant after the February 1st deadline for freshmen students excluding the Non-Resident Waiver.

 

FRESHMAN NON-RESIDENT WAIVER GRID

The deadline for Presidential and Exemplary (Academic Merit) scholarships is February 1st. If you missed the February 1st deadline, and otherwise would have qualified for the Presidential or Exemplary, you will be eligible for the Non-Resident Waiver.

NonResident Freshman Grid

  • Presidential (Academic Merit): Pays full tuition and general student fees (as notated on the Current Tuition Tables). You may owe other fees associated with your coursework. You can view your balance in myUVU. You must read and accept your award contract by the specified date on your award contract. This scholarship is renewable for four years, or until you receive your bachelor’s degree, which ever is sooner, as long as you have met the cumulative GPA and credit hour criteria for this scholarship. If renewed, award notification will be sent to your myUVU email by June 1st. You must read and accept your award contract each year by the appropriate deadline listed on your award contract. Utah Valley University only has available funding to award one student the Presidential Scholarship per academic year.        
  • Exemplary Merit (Academic Merit): Pays full tuition for the first academic year. You will owe general student fees (as notated on the Current Tuition Tables) and other fees associated with your coursework. You can view your balance in myUVU. For subsequent academic years, you will receive $2,000. You must read and accept your award contract by the specified date on your award contract. 

    This scholarship is renewable for four years, or until you receive your bachelor’s degree, whichever is sooner, as long as you have met the cumulative GPA and credit hour criteria for this scholarship. If renewed, award notification will be sent to your myUVU email by June 1st. You must read and accept your award contract each year by the appropriate deadline listed on your award contract. Utah Valley University only has available funding to award three students the Exemplary Scholarship per academic year.

  • Non-Resident Waiver: Pays the nonresident portion of tuition. You will owe resident tuition, all general student fees (as notated on the Current Tuition Tables), and any other fees associated with your coursework. Example, if resident tuition is $2,000 and nonresident tuition is $7,000, your scholarship will be $5,000 and you will owe $2,000 in tuition, all general student fees (as notated on the Current Tuition Tables), and any other fees associated with your coursework. You can view your balance in myUVU. You must read and accept your award contract by the specified date on your award contract. This scholarship is not renewable. If considering applying for Utah Residency at Utah Valley University, the time in Utah, while receiving this scholarship, can be considered.
  • SAT composite score consists of critical reading and math.
  • Limited number of Academic Merit available.
