Non-Resident Waivers

Welcome to Utah Valley University. Even as a non-Utah resident, you may qualify* for in-state tuition at UVU — that’s about $2,600 per semester. Below is information on our non-resident (out-of-state) reduced tuition program. See requirements below to see if you qualify or APPLY NOW. Students are only eligible for ONE of these options, even if they qualify for both.

 

TRANSFER STUDENTS

Deadline: August 1st for Fall - January 21st for Spring

OPTION 1: Merit-based: full one-year non-resident waiver

Recipient pays resident portion/one-year- nonrenewable

Requirements - Refer to Scholarship Grid (below)

  • Cumulative 3.2 or higher transfer GPA (Religion Classes GPA excluded)
  • Completed 30 or more college credits at an institution other than UVU (excluding Concurrent Enrollment, AP Classes, and Religion Classes)
  • Have never previously attended UVU
  • Maintain at least 3.2 GPA for 2nd semester
  • Students must be registered for at least 12 credits

Considerations

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen to receive this waiver
  • Students enrolled in –ESL, Global Aviation and/or Off-Budget programs are not eligible
  • Students who have graduated with a BS and/or BA degree are not eligible
  • Time in Utah may count towards Utah Residency

 

OPTION 2: Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE): 150% resident rate

Requirements

  • Must be from a participating WICHE State
  • Students must be registered for at least 15 credits and maintain at least 2.0 GPA at UVU

Considerations

  • Time in Utah DOES NOT count towards Utah Residency
  • State of residency is one of the 15 eligible WICHE states (Alaska, Hawaii, Northern Marianas Islands, California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota).
  • Must be enrolled in an eligible WUE major
  • May not defer admission

 

Non-Resident (Out-of-State) Waivers

Recent legislation has provided Non-Resident Waivers to students that meet the academic qualifications. See the grid below. The Non-Resident Waivers are for one academic year only. Your Non-Resident portion of tuition will be waived and you will pay resident tuition. Students are encouraged to gain residency during their first year. Award notifications will be sent to your UVLink email with instructions on how to view and accept/decline the award.

Non-Resident Waiver: This award waives the non-resident portion of tuition and is not renewable.

  1. You must be a U.S. Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen to receive this waiver
  2. Students enrolled in off-budget programs (ESL and/or Global Aviation) are not eligible
  3. Students who have graduated with a bachelor's degree are not eligible

NEW FRESHMAN

Deadline: August 1st for Fall - January 21st for Spring

  • 3.3 or higher High School GPA (this GPA is unweighted)
  • 24 ACT (SAT 1110) or higher (Critical Reading and Math Score for SAT)
  • Maintain at least 3.2 GPA for 2nd semester
  • Students must be registered for at least 12 credits
  • Entering student with less than 30 college credits (excluding Concurrent Enrollment, AP Classes, and Religion Classes)*

Considerations

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen to receive this waiver
  • Students enrolled in –ESL, Global Aviation and/or Off-Budget programs are not eligible
  • Transfer Students who have less than 30 credit hours will be considered Freshman for this waiver and must provide their High School Grade Transcript and ACT/SAT Scores
  • Time in Utah may count towards Utah Residency

*Must submit High School Transcript & ACT/SAT to be considered

FRESHMAN NON-RESIDENT WAIVER GRID

  • The deadline for Presidential and Exemplary (Academic Merit) scholarships is February 1st. If you missed the February 1st deadline, and othewise would have qualified for the Presidential or Exemplary, you will be eligible for the Non-Resident Waiver.
  • The deadline for Non-Resident Waiver is August 1st.

P PRESIDENTIAL (Academic Merit)
E EXEMPLARY (Academic Merit)
NRW NON-RESIDENT WAIVER

 

  • Presidential (Academic Merit): This is a full tuition, fees, and stipend award and is renewable for up to eight semesters or until you receive your BS and/or BA degree, whichever comes first (1 available).
  • Exemplary Merit (Academic Merit): This is a full tuition award and is renewable for up to eight semesters or until you receive your bachelor's degree, whichever comes first. However, it will only waive the resident portion of tuition, leaving you to pay the difference (3 available).
  • Non-Resident Waiver: This award waives the non-resident portion of tuition and is not renewable.
  • SAT composite score consists of critical reading and math.
  • Limited number of Academic Merit available.
  1. You must be a U.S. Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen to receive this waiver
  2. Students enrolled in off-budget programs (ESL and/or Global Aviation) are not eligible
  3. Entering students with less than 30 college credits (excluding Concurrent Enrollment, AP Classes, and Religion Classes) will be considered freshmen for the Non-Resident Waiver only and must provide their official High School Grade Transcript and ACT/SAT Scores
