Required Testing

Students applying to Utah Valley University (UVU) who are under the age of 21 must submit scores for either the ACT or SAT test. While UVU is an open enrollment institution, meaning we will accept all applicants who complete the application process successfully, we require an ACT or SAT score for class placement purposes. Students over the age of 21 who have not taken the ACT or SAT test will be required to take the COMPASS test through UVU’s Testing Services Center, located at 1165 W. 800 S. Orem, UT 84058. Tests are administered on a walk-in basis; however, tests will not be administered with fewer than two hours prior to the closing of the Testing Services Center.

A Residual-ACT test is offered at the UVU Testing Services Center in addition to the COMPASS test; however, both tests are not necessarily required. Students who score below a 19 on the ACT in the subjects of reading, writing and/or math, or students who score below 500 on the SAT in the subjects of grammar and/or math must take the COMPASS test for placement purposes.

Scores from the Residual-ACT test may only be used at Utah Valley University.
