Val has served as UVU’s Advancement vice president for two-and-a-half years. Prior to his current appointment, Val was assistant vice president for External Affairs, where he oversaw community relations and economic development and worked with Val Peterson as UVU’s lobbyist on Capitol Hill.

Prior to coming to UVU, Val worked for 22 years at BYU, mainly in the area of intercollegiate athletics. The last five years at BYU, Val served as director of men’s athletics. He received a bachelor’s degree in public relations from BYU in 1981 and a master’s in communications from BYU in 1987.

Val has been married to Nancy Allred (a current UVU master’s degree student) for 29
years. They have three children and four grandchildren. His hobbies are golf (4 handicap), biking, tennis, racquetball, backpacking, fly fishing, triathlons, writing, skiing and snowshoeing.

Thomas Rasmussen

Tom has served as Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement for seven years and currently serves as chair of the Strategic Web Action Team (SWAT) and Executive Director of Web Advisory Commitee (WAC). Prior to his current appointment, Tom was Associate Vice President for Information Technology, where he oversaw the installation of UVU’s current technology backbone and administrative systems. He served in that position for 18 of his 25-year tenure. Tom Served as PACE President in 1988.

Tom graduated Magna Cum Laude from BYU in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in business education. He also received two associate’s degrees from UVU in general studies and marketing management in 1977. Tom was on UVU’s first intercollegiate basketball team in 1972, and he still cheers for the Wolverines. He received the Wolverine Spirit Award in 1998 and Wolverine Fan of the Year in 1999. Tom has been married to Diane Farrer for 32 years. They have five children and four grandchildren. His hobbies are golf (hole-in-one in 2000) and fishing.

Art McKinlay

Art McKinlay joined UVU in August 2008. He cut his professional teeth in the advertising industry, serving as an account executive, public relations director and later in senior account management positions. His fund-raising experience started in college, where he raised money for university development projects. Later, he put those skills to use as a business executive and volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America. After many years as a marketing and communications professional in Hawaii, Art became a development officer and fund-raising leader at BYU.

Before coming to UVU, Art was responsible for raising tens of millions of dollars, providing funding for four new university buildings and leading several out-of-state, corporate and other major and principal gifts teams. Art is married to Kathy Jo Hallstrom of Honolulu. They have four children and several grandchildren.
