Youth and the Mountains

The History & Political Science department is pleased to announce a new journal of student writings. The first volume of Youth and the Mountain was published in the fall of 2013 in association with the Utah International Mountain Forum (UIMF) and Utah Valley University faculty. Students at Utah Valley University wanted to distribute a publication at the 4th Global Meeting of the Mountain Partnership held in Erzurum, Turkey, September 17-20, 2013.The journal is composed of essays written by undergraduate students and the winners of a high school essay contest that was held in 2011, 2012, and 2013. The text discusses issues of sustainable mountain development such as environmental protection, conflict resolution, and alternative energy use in the mountain regions.

Mountain issues are of special importance to us at Utah Valley University as the Wasatch Front is considered to be our backyard and the reason we consider the mountains to be our home. Raising awareness of mountain issues and creating partnerships among mountain communities has been at the heart of all Utah Valley University's efforts as a member of the Mountain Partnership. Currently, Youth and the Mountains are gearing up for volume II. If you are interested in contributing a paper or being on the editorial board contact us through email: YouthMT@uvu.edu
