Position Summary:

Administer, design, and analyze multiple college wage and salary programs for all staff and part-time employees through long-range strategic planning and the development of policy recommendations, procedures, regulations and forms in order to maintain equitable and competitive wage and salary programs. Administer, coordinate, and analyze the compensation activities and functions of the college to assist supervisors in determining compensation decisions that help ensure compliance with federal, state and university requirements. Supervise the processing of all post-hiring compensation staff paperwork. Oversee the job description and evaluation processes. Administer the benchmarking and slotting process.

Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:
  • Administer all aspects of staff wage and salary plans for full and part-time employees to help provide pay equity. This includes salary schedules, annual increases, and any one-time merit plans.

  • Work to maintain the place of the University in reference to the competing marketplace.

  • Manage the salary survey studies including the collection, matching, and reporting of data.

  • Develop, maintain, and publishe salary schedules.

  • Ensure that all forms are processed timely meeting calendared deadlines for the payroll.

  • Provide accurate and timely training to Analyst regarding the processing and exceptions.

  • Produce wage, salary, and other reports as necessary. This is required to help plan, monitor, and control the human resource investment of the University along with enabling other departments across the University to stay competitive in the employment process.

  • Coordinate the slotting committee and finalizes all data relating to slotted jobs.

  • Supervise the compensation analyst in daily functions.

  • Coordinate and complete all reclassification activities and employee compensation actions.

  • Design merit pay programs and incentive plans.

  • Design methods to link pay to performance.

  • Design communication pieces regarding strategic directions related to compensation programs.

  • Determine compensation costs and recommendations for improving strategic directions for UVU.

  • Design compensation policies and procedures.

  • Interpret compensation policies and procedures.

  • Update compensation skills with cutting edge industry HR practices.

  • Assist in developing executive compensation when requested.

  • Perform job analysis and job documentation.

  • Budget, audit, and control systems for salary administration

  • Assist with development of the performance management systems.

  • Determine cost of market adjustments and cost of below-minimum increases.

  • Work with benefit manager to determine compensation cost impact on benefits.

  • Recommend changes to compensation matters when necessary.

  • Function as a decision-maker regarding compensation matters.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • A99271 Technician Grade 10 Nonexempt Full-time.
  • A99430 Specialist Grade 31 Nonexempt Full-time.

Special Requirements of the Position:

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in human resource management or related area. Four to six years of human resource management or related work experience. Masters preferred. Higher education work background preferred. Specialized compensation credentials (CCP) preferred.

  • Advanced computer skills: statistical analysis, ACCESS report writing, work processing, spreadsheet, data base management, and client-server environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of employee salary plans both staff and faculty and compensation practices, including federal and state regulation.
  • A thorough and current knowledge of personnel/employment laws and regulations, specifically those that relate to Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity and employment.
  • Statistics and math for salary administration (multiple linear regression analysis preferred.)
  • Ability to work effectively with administrators, staff, faculty, organizations, and a wide variety of people from diverse backgrounds, both within and outside the University.
  • Good public relations skills.
  • Conflict resolution skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Good organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to manage many projects and activities concurrently.
  • Prior supervisory skills preferred.
