Under the direction of the Dean and the chair of the department of Criminal Justice the Assistant Professor will, teach undergraduate courses in Criminal Justice and other courses as deemed appropriate; supervise student teachers, interns, and field work students.  Provide service to the college and community, produce scholarly work, and uphold professional and ethical standards.

 

• Teaches and designs courses in Criminal Justice, and other courses that meet program needs.
• Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study with measurable objectives and student outcomes for each course taught.  
• Prepares all instructional materials to include course syllabi, exams, readings, instructions, visual aids, and other materials in electronic and paper formats.
• Maintains and submits accurate and current records concerning student accountability, attendance, and performance.    Effectively and accurately participate in the College of Aviation and Public Service accreditation process.     
• Assists advisors, department chairs, faculty, and department staff in maintaining effective programs.       
• Engages in scholarly activities and produce scholarly work.    
• Serves as chair or member of academic committees.   
• Maintains currency and improve professionally in the content and pedagogy of courses taught.  
• Provides service to the University and community. 
• Attends assigned meetings, maintain office hours, and uphold a student centered approach to education.  
• Develops positive relationships with colleagues and public school teachers and administrators.  
• Upholds professional and ethical standards. Improves professionally and maintain currency in courses taught by reading and using materials techniques though participation in workshops, conferences, and seminars.

Graduated from an accredited institution with an earned PhD or advanced ABD status with a Criminal Justice emphasis.   Successful college/university level teaching experience would be preferred.

• Knowledge of and experience in teaching courses in the area of Criminal Justice.
• Knowledge and skill in current instructional theory, methods, strategies and techniques.
• Knowledge in student management, motivation and evaluation techniques.
• Skill in interpersonal relationships, problem-solving and decision-making.
• Evidence of potential for scholarly work.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a diverse group.
• Ability to apply multimedia hardware/software in classroom teaching.
