Position: Director - Equity in Education

Position Summary:

Makes community, university, and conference presentations about equity/diversity issues. Educates school-age youth regarding equity issues. Oversees daily operations of the Equity Center. Plans and implements conferences. Implements and evaluates workshops. Locates and writes grant proposals related to equity issues. Supervises volunteers.

Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:
  • Assists individuals who seek services from the Equity Center.
  • Manages Equity Center budget.
  • Makes presentations to local schools using Making Equity Count for Classroom Achievement curriculum.
  • Trains local teachers regarding equity/diversity issues.
  • Makes all arrangements for Clothesline Project, including set-up, volunteers, program, etc..
  • Designs two major conferences per year and collaborate closely with Conferences and Workshops on implementation.
  • Arranges for speakers to present at conferences.
  • Makes presentations at local and national conferences.
  • Updates information in Making Equity Count for Classroom Achievement as needed.
  • Produces a newsletter that focuses on equity educational issues.
  • Researches information to be used in gender equity education training.
  • Reviews research, literature, videos, etc., to be used as resources for the Center.
  • Attends conferences to gather updated information on equity.
  • Maintains library to be used for lending.
  • Creates list of potential presenters.
  • Maintains office files.
  • Writes grants to help fund the Center.
  • Supervises any Center volunteers.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Special Requirements of the Position:

Graduation from accredited college or university with master's degree in Education, Sociology, Psychology or a related field (a minor in women's studies or gender equity studies helpful); or a bachelor's degree and two years experience; or any combination of education/experience related to the summary of duties totaling six years.

  • Knowledge of gender equity issues affecting education.
  • Skill in public speaking.
  • Skill in record and file management.
  • Skill in interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Skill in planning and implementing conferences and workshops.
  • Skill with computers.
  • Ability to research, design, write, and present instructional information.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to supervise volunteers.
