Position: Assistant Coach - Track & Cross Country

Position Summary:

Assist in the planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the university's intercollegiate track and cross country program.

Monitor, coordinate, and communicate with department staff on the academic and eligibility affairs of all current and perspective team members according to institutional, conference and NCAA rules. Promote booster organization for effective public relations and financial support. Assist in the public relations operations of the college's intercollegiate track and cross country program. Support and maintain all UVU and NCAA standards of ethical conduct for athletics personnel. Uphold and abide by all NCAA regulations and Utah Valley University institutional policies and procedures.

Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:

Assists in the planning, organizing, and directing of activities for the university's intercollegiate track and cross country program.
Teaches and maintains an effective skill level of the team members.
Coordinates with the Director of Athletics in regards to preparation of schedules, assigning officials, and scheduling practices.
Assists in scouting future opponents and preparing scouting reports. Recruit perspective student athletes.
Helps formulate game plans and assist in competition preparation.
Maintains, purchases, stores, and issues equipment as required.
Operates and stays within an established budget.
Assists the Head Coach, Director of Athletics, and other department staff in maintaining an effective program.
Determines and maintain an effective record keeping system.
Directs all affairs in relation to team travel: accommodations, transport, meals, and other related duties.
Determines and maintain current knowledge of developments in coaching and teaching strategies.
Builds and maintain an intercollegiate track and cross country program that supports the Utah Valley University Athletic Department's strategic plan, mission, and goals.
Facilitates transition of program, coaching staff, and athletes during move from NJCAA status to NCAA Division I.
Performs other miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor degree and two years experience related to the summary of duties; or any combination of education and/or experience related to the summary of duties totaling two years.

Knowledge of techniques, rules, and organization of track and field training, competitions, etc..
Knowledge of current developments in coaching and teaching strategies.
Skill in public relations, public speaking, and team building skills.
Skill in budget preparation, execution, and record keeping.
Skill in planning and organizing competitions and travel schedules.
Skill and ability to recruit, coach, and scout student athletes to perform at an intercollegiate level.
Ability to monitor eligibillity rules according to university, conference, and NCAA standards.
Ability to effectively manage and maintain responsibility for team control, cohesiveness, and academic athletic success.
Ability to understand and abide by all NCAA regulations and ethical conduct standards as well as Utah Valley University institutional policies and procedures.
