Position Summary:

Conducts/assists in the analyzes of jobs, hourly wages, salaries, and incentives in order to evaluate internal equity, external competitiveness, and legal compliance of UVU pay practices. Performs/assists in research and makes recommendations regarding salary grades or market rates for specific jobs. Reviews/assists salary increases for compliance with state and federal regulations as well as UVU policy and budget. Assists in data collection, preparation, and submission of third party and required state and federal wage surveys and reports. Serves as a resource to UVU departments for the job description process which includes development and approval. Develops and maintains electronic job description warehouse. Responsible for the accurate input and maintenance of all employee data into HRIS. Coordinates with Payroll, Benefits Office, and Budget Office in identifying and correcting data anomalies. Prepares statistical summaries and complex spreadsheets, reports, charts, graphs, and presentations in support of decision making processes. Assists in the design/modification of forms to facilitate/expedite compensation actions. Maintains historical files of compensation actions relating to employees, departments and organization.

Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:
  • Analyzes Personnel Action Form information to ensure compliance with government regulations and college policy; evaluate internal equity and external competitiveness.

  • Advises managers and employees on state, federal, and university compensation and classification regulations and policy.

  • Researches and collects data for the completion of salary surveys and approved data requests (e.g. school accreditation, statistical reports, ad hoc reports, UVU Fact Book etc.)

  • Performs/assists in market research and prepares summaries of market rates for specific jobs.

  • Prepares statistical summaries and complex spreadsheets, reports, charts, graphs and presentations in support of administrative decision making.

  • Accurately creates, updates, and maintains UVU employee records in the Human Resource Information System (HRIS).

  • Coordinates with Payroll, Budget Office, and Benefits Office to diagnose difficulties with data extraction and manipulation; recommends solutions.

  • Corrects data anomalies in HRIS as identified by HRIS manager.

  • Assist in the design and modification of HR forms to facilitate/expedite compensation actions.

  • Maintains historical files of compensation actions related to employee, department, and organization.

  • Maintains a thorough understanding of federal, state, and university rules, regulations, and policies that govern labor and employment actions.

  • Serves as a resource to management in the research and development of job descriptions.

  • Organizes and maintains electronic job description warehouse for ease in locating and future publication to the web.

  • Prepares presentations for compensation/classification training.

  • Assists in collection and organization of materials for monthly Job Slotting Committee meeting. Assists with Job Slotting Committee duties and responsibilities. 

  • Maintains/updates compensation/classification FAQs on web site.

  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree or any combination of education and/or experience related to the summary of duties totaling four years.

  • Knowledge of principles of administrative organization.
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques of statistical research and analysis
  • Skill in logic, reasoning, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated intermediate skill in the use of computer software applications including Excel, Access, MS Word, and Power Point.
