Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the Assistant Director, the Supervisor - Logistics UFRA will perform routine managerial work overseeing the daily operations and activities of the fire academy’s training facilities and fire equipment.


Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:
  • Oversee and perform repairs on all Fire motorized equipment (licensed and unlicensed) used in training by faculty, students, and staff in both on and off-campus courses. Stay abreast on trends, and techniques on existing/newly acquired equipment to ensure compliance with local / state/ federal regulations.
  • Plan labor and materials with selected vendors, within established budget constraints. 
  • Attend courses to obtain/maintain certifications on maintenance's of Fire equipment.  
  • Oversee the design and fabrication of unique training props used in courses delivered both on and off campus and determine the methods best suited for construction of training props. C ollaborate with faculty and staff to develop plans and objectives for training props as well as assembling of materials to construct training props. Conduct the pilot testing of newly constructed training equipment to ensure proper performance.
  • Collaborate and present with appropriate Fire Academy personnel in providing recommendations for Academy short and long-term logistical planning.  
  • Supervise full and part-time personnel. Assign work and manage the operations of the Support Services Section in the absence of the Assistant Director .
  • Assist with the management of the Provo Airport Campus remodeling & maintenance to ensure that department staff & students have a clean, comfortable environment to learn or perform job responsibilities. 
  • Collaborate with Campus Engineer, Central Plant, Custodial Services, Fire Marshall and other divisions to coordinate efforts related to the fire alarm systems and fire sprinkler systems.  
  • Represent UFRA and UVU to Provo City departments on issues related to development of Training Ground.
  • Perform miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

  • Technician   /   grade 11   /   full-time   /   nonexempt.
  • Logistics Technician   /   grade 5   /   part-time   /   nonexempt.
  • Truck Driver   /   grade 9   /   part-time   /   nonexempt.
  • Truck Driver   /   grade 9   /   part-time   /   nonexempt. 

 


Special Requirements of the Position:
  •  Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor degree and one year of experience related to the summary of duties; or an associate degree and three years of experience related to the summary of duties; or any combination of education and/or experience related to the summary of duties totaling five years.

  •  Knowledge of engine/equipment repair and hydraulic systems as well as state and federal regulations.  
  • Ability to operate wire, arc, and oxyacetylene welders and associated tools/materials used in fabrication.
  • Ability to read blueprints and maintain accurate records and files.
  • Ability to monitor a budget.
  • Inter personal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. 
  • Ability to supervise others.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
